Los Angeles California - According to Adam Schefter the Los Angeles Rams have sent shockwaves across the NFL by initiating contract talks to reinforce their defensive front
The move comes at a crucial moment as the team looks to rebuild its pass rush after struggling to generate consistent pressure
Despite having talented defensive pieces the Rams have lacked a proven veteran presence to support their young edge rushers
Cameron Jordan has emerged as the primary target as the Rams pursue the veteran defensive end for immediate impact
At 37 years old he is still considered one of the most consistent and productive defensive ends in the league
Over the years he has proven his ability to maintain elite performance despite age and frequent roster changes around him
Last season he recorded 10.5 sacks along with 15 tackles for loss showcasing his continued ability to disrupt offenses
These numbers reinforce that his pass rushing ability remains dangerous even at this late stage of his career
His career statistics include 132 sacks 3 All Pro selections and 8 Pro Bowl appearances across more than 14 seasons
Those achievements place him firmly among future Hall of Fame candidates and among the best defensive ends of his generation
The Rams currently lack proven veteran depth at the edge rusher position which has impacted defensive consistency
Younger players have shown potential but have yet to produce consistently forcing the team to seek experienced leadership
Jordan would bring not only production but also mentorship to help elevate the entire defensive unit
He is widely respected as a locker room leader capable of setting a professional standard for younger teammates
His versatility allows him to play both outside edge and inside defensive tackle providing tactical flexibility
This flexibility would give head coach Sean McVay additional options within his defensive schemes
Concerns remain about his age and sustaining peak performance over a full season
However his durability stands out having missed only two games in his entire career
Sources indicate he prefers joining a contender with strong Super Bowl aspirations at this stage of his career
If completed this move could become one of the most strategic offseason additions strengthening the Rams defense
