Dolphins GM Rejects Steelers’ Bold Trade Offer for Tyreek Hill
September 9, 2025 — Miami, FL
The Pittsburgh Steelers have been aggressive in their hunt for another offensive weapon, but their latest attempt to land Tyreek Hill from the Miami Dolphins has been turned down.
According to reports, Pittsburgh offered Miami a package consisting of a 2025 first-round pick and a 2026 fourth-round pick. The goal was to pair Hill with DK Metcalf and provide quarterback Aaron Rodgers with one of the league’s most dangerous receiver duos. Miami, however, was not convinced.
Dolphins general manager Chris Grier stood firm, emphasizing that Hill’s impact goes beyond his age and current contract. Even at 31, Hill remains one of the NFL’s most explosive playmakers and is not someone the franchise can easily replace.
“The Steelers have already taken enough from us over the years,” Grier said. “Look at how Ramsey helped them beat the Jets — that shows the value we’ve given away. If they want Tyreek Hill, the price has to be far higher. We won’t give away greatness for cheap anymore.”
Miami’s long-term vision also influenced the decision. With Tua Tagovailoa’s future uncertain, maintaining draft flexibility is vital in case a rebuild becomes necessary. Trading Hill without a blockbuster return would undermine that strategy.
From Pittsburgh’s side, the interest was obvious. The offer was lighter than the five draft picks the Chiefs received when they dealt Hill in 2022, and a Rodgers–Hill reunion had the potential to swing the balance of power in the AFC.
Financially, the Steelers were in a position to absorb Hill’s $10 million base salary for 2025. Still, the Dolphins recognize his market value far exceeds that figure and were unwilling to accept anything short of a premium return.
For now, Hill remains in Miami. The Dolphins’ response sent a clear message across the league: acquiring an elite talent like Tyreek Hill will not come at a discount, and Miami has no intention of underselling their star receiver.
