Host Colin Cowherd Harshly Criticizes 49ers: “With This Roster, They Have No Chance of Beating the Saints”
San Francisco, September 2025 –
Just before the upcoming matchup against the New Orleans Saints at Caesars Superdome, the San Francisco 49ers have become the center of controversy as three offensive stars—Brock Purdy, George Kittle, and Brandon Aiyuk—are sidelined by injuries, forcing Mac Jones to start for the first time in the red-and-gold. Instead of sympathy, renowned analyst Colin Cowherd unleashed scathing criticism directly aimed at the 49ers’ management.

On his show The Herd, Cowherd declared:
“This is the most fragile organization in the NFL. They’re too brittle, and when injuries hit, they collapse immediately. John Lynch and his team have whiffed on too many draft picks—Trey Lance was a bust, Jake Moody is a disaster, Javon Kinlaw hasn’t lived up to expectations. Even in free agency, they splashed cash on Javan Hargrove with no real return.”
Cowherd didn’t stop there, adding fuel to the fire:
“Look at the NFC: the Packers are youthful, the Rams are powerful, the Eagles are balanced on both sides of the ball. And the 49ers? They’re old, injury-prone, and lack depth. With this roster, I’m certain they have no chance of beating the Saints tomorrow, especially playing in the Superdome—one of the toughest venues in the NFL.”
Other analysts agree that this is a daunting challenge for Mac Jones. Despite his experience with the Patriots, Jones must lead a star-depleted offense under the immense pressure of the Superdome’s raucous atmosphere. “He’s not stepping into a perfect Ferrari,” one analyst remarked. “He’s been handed a car missing a wheel.”
While the Saints capitalize on their home-field advantage and a seasoned defense, the 49ers face a multitude of challenges. Cowherd’s criticisms only add to the pressure on San Francisco’s leadership. If a loss occurs tomorrow, it could be the clearest evidence yet of his claim: the 49ers have truly lost the identity that once made them formidable.
