Packers Funding Public Transit to Lambeau Field Amid Ongoing Traffic Overload
Green Bay, WI — September 12, 2025 — Every NFL season, the city of Green Bay faces severe traffic congestion around Lambeau Field, as tens of thousands of Packers fans flood in to cheer on their team. Now, the Packers’ leadership is weighing a bold solution: funding bus and train services to ease transportation pressures on game days.
In recent years, Green Bay has struggled with gridlock every weekend the Packers play at home. Narrow streets, limited parking, and waves of fans traveling from across Wisconsin and neighboring states have turned reaching the stadium into a logistical challenge.
According to internal sources, the idea emerged after city officials reported a 15% increase in traffic congestion around Lambeau Field compared to the 2023 season. If implemented, the Packers could partner with regional bus lines and local train operators, covering part of the operating costs to ensure fans have more convenient options.
A Packers official explained: “Lambeau Field is the heart of our community, and we want to make sure that coming here is a positive experience. Sponsored public transit could be an important step toward easing the strain for both fans and local residents.”
The proposal carries benefits beyond traffic relief, contributing to environmental goals as well. Encouraging thousands of fans to take public transportation instead of driving individually could significantly reduce carbon emissions on major event days.

Other NFL franchises, such as the Minnesota Vikings and Seattle Seahawks, have partnered with public transit agencies to provide fan access. However, if the Packers were to directly sponsor full-scale transit services, it would be one of the rare cases where an NFL team assumes the costs, underscoring their identity as the league’s only community-owned franchise.
Packers fans have responded positively on social media, many calling the plan a “practical and community-first” way to strengthen ties between the team and the city. One fan wrote: “If the Packers take care of getting us to the stadium, that proves they really belong to the people.”
While the plan remains under review, the mere fact that the Packers are considering such an investment has generated excitement. With Lambeau Field consistently overloaded on Sundays, this initiative could mark a turning point not only for the franchise but for the entire city of Green Bay.
