Packers’ Jayden Reed Suffers Devastating Collarbone Fracture vs. Commanders, Likely Out for Season
Green Bay, September 12, 2025
The Green Bay Packers’ 27-18 victory over the Washington Commanders this morning (Vietnam time, evening of September 11 U.S.) was overshadowed by a crushing blow: star wide receiver Jayden Reed suffered a fractured collarbone in the first quarter, potentially ending his 2025 season. The injury casts a dark cloud over the Packers’ 2-0 start.
Reed, a third-year standout, was injured on a negated 39-yard touchdown catch, landing hard under the weight of Commanders’ safety Quan Martin. Coach Matt LaFleur confirmed postgame that Reed’s collarbone is broken, landing him on injured reserve (IR). While initial reports suggest a 6-8 week recovery, sources indicate complications could sideline him for the entire season.
The loss is a gut punch for Green Bay’s offense. Reed, who led the team with 857 receiving yards and six touchdowns in 2024, was Jordan Love’s top target. His Week 1 performance (three catches, 45 yards, one touchdown) showed his explosiveness, despite playing through a preexisting Jones fracture in his foot.
With Reed out and Christian Watson still on the PUP list, the Packers will lean on rookie Matthew Golden, Romeo Doubs, and Dontayvion Wicks (questionable, shoulder). Tight end Tucker Kraft, who had six catches for 124 yards against the Commanders, will also see a bigger role to fill the void.
LaFleur remains optimistic, pointing to the team’s depth. “Jayden’s a catalyst for us, but we’ve got guys ready to step up,” he said. The emergence of Golden and contributions from Doubs (one touchdown) and Wicks could keep the offense humming, though replacing Reed’s playmaking will be tough.
As the Packers prepare for a Week 3 matchup against the Cleveland Browns, Reed’s absence looms large. If the worst-case scenario holds and he’s out for the season, Green Bay’s Super Bowl aspirations will hinge on their young receivers rising to the challenge, testing the resilience of this NFC powerhouse.
