Saints Head Coach Kellen Moore Furious, Claims Refs Favored 49ers: “If a Saints Player Did That to Their QB, They’d Be Ejected”

Saints Head Coach Kellen Moore Furious, Claims Refs Favored 49ers: “If a Saints Player Did That to Their QB, They’d Be Ejected”

New Orleans, September 15, 2025  – The game between the New Orleans Saints and San Francisco 49ers ended with a 26-21 victory for the visitors. However, the post-game buzz wasn’t about Mac Jones’ three touchdown passes but rather a controversial foul against rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler.

In the third quarter, with the 49ers leading 20-14, Rattler scrambled out of bounds to escape pressure. As everyone thought the play was over, 49ers defender Talanoa Hufanga charged and shoved Rattler hard, causing him to crash near the bench. The entire Superdome erupted, and Rattler’s teammates rushed to his defense, nearly turning the game into a massive brawl.

The referees quickly called a 15-yard personal foul on the 49ers. But for Saints head coach Kellen Moore, the penalty was “far from sufficient.” He vented post-game: “This was blatantly unsportsmanlike. I’ll be honest—if a Saints player had charged and shoved the 49ers’ QB like that, they’d have been ejected from the game immediately. But here, the opponent only gets a 15-yard penalty. That’s unfair, and I believe the NFL needs to review this bias in officiating.”

Saints fans flooded social media, slamming the refs for “favoritism,” arguing the 49ers “escaped a heavier punishment” and that their victory was tainted by dirty play. Many compared it, saying: “If that was Tom Brady, half the 49ers’ roster would’ve been ejected.”

The scoreboard didn’t change, but the wave of outrage from Saints Nation shows: for them, the loss stings less than the feeling of being unfairly officiated and watching their young QB targeted with dirty tactics on home turf.
