Before Donald Driver was a household name, there were no scholarships, no recruiters, just a single mother named Tinye and a family scraping by in a Houston trailer park. Growing up, Driver slept on a floor teeming with rats, sharing a single mattress with his siblings while Tinye worked multiple jobs. Those tattered cleats, patched together with duct tape and hope, carried him to youth football fields, with Tinye driving him in a beat-up car that doubled as their shelter after games. “She never complained, never said we couldn’t do it,” Driver later recalled in a 2011 interview. “She just wanted me to believe I belonged on that field.”
With no trainers or sponsors, Driver relied on Tinye’s guidance and a work ethic forged in adversity.
